One sport that is gaining popularity these days is the sport of wakeboarding. Wakeboarding can be described as a mixture of snowboarding, surfing and water skiing. Essentially a person is towed in the water by a boat that goes anywhere from 15 to 30 miles an hour. The board a person uses is usually a combination of foam and fiberglass. Over the years certain boats are preferred for this sport over others.
Generally speaking the type of Wakeboard Boats that are used by most people in the wakeboarding sport are of the V-drive type that utilize an inboard engine. This type of engine is mounted in the back of the boat and has two propellers. This type of engine set-up is generally more powerful than the outboard type set-up found on many boats. The other reason that a lot of wakeboarders prefer the engine in back is because of the added weight in the rear of the boat. Because of the added weight in the back of the boat the resulting waves are steeper and larger.
Another feature that is found on Wakeboard boats that are used by people involved in the wakeboarding sport are called wedges. These are essentially a metal device that is attached to the boat hull near the back of the boat near the engine. The purpose of the wedge is to drag the rear of the boat down even further to make waves even steeper and larger. Some boats also use a device called a wake plate to help shape the shape of the wake. These too are found near the rear of the boat.
Something else that is used extensively on Wakeboard boats are known as a wakeboard tower. These are made out of metal and attached to the boat for the purpose of pulling a wakeboarder through the water. The reason they are high up is that it pulls a wakeboarder from a higher angle. This allows the wakeboarder to jump higher than a fixed position that is directly tied to the boat itself.
